TRAI asks DoT to ensure seamless connectivity in the wake of delay in spectrum allotment
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has warned the customers about a partial disruption of telecom services in the circles of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The service breakdown will be due to the delay in allocation of spectrum won by the telecom operators in these circles in February 2014 auctions. TRAI is of the view that the services in the Delhi circle would be impacted the most from December 2014 as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India wouldn't be able to reconfigure their networks with the new bandwidth allotments by November 30, 2014.
Earlier, the telecom operators had sought a six month extension to reconfigure their networks to the new frequency airwaves, but the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) rejected the proposal arguing that any such extension would be equivalent to the extension of the licence.
In this regard, TRAI has asked DoT to ensure that the customers do not face any inconvenience in the telecom services in these regions.
